Announcing Ms. Aligned 2

front cover

Ms. Aligned offers a stellar showcase. From an impassioned premise surfaces such a platter of beautiful surprises. The voices are distinct and diverse, the narratives all admirably rendered. The reader comes away with a soft wisdom. Of what it means to be relational. Of what it means to be complex, gendered beings navigating our heavy, exacting world. Fascinating and extraordinary!

If you can find, as a reader, a small publication like this that shows such drive, you can almost feel the love in the pages. There are lots of anthologies like this out in the world – they are often themed, regularly published and almost always supported by a small staff. It’s my hope that anthologies like Ms. Aligned can get more attention. Anthology collections are where exciting writing comes to the surface.

[These] stories and poems take a turn at punctuating maleness. They shape soft clay. They put the male in the female gaze and behold him. So many stories and poems in a row about men almost normalize this change in mode. If it weren’t what I had been reading for, I may not have entirely noticed. In [Ms. Aligned 2], the men are on stage and meant to be the ones asking “Is that how women see me? Am I forever being seen?” The stories and poems in Ms. Aligned behold the man.

With the generous support of the SEED IDEAS program of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, we produced the second edition of our women’s anthology. Published by El León Literary Arts and featuring several new contributors, Ms. Aligned 2 is available in a print edition from Amazon.com. The 128-page paperback is $15.

For the month of November, we ran a giveaway campaign on Goodreads. People who entered by the 30th had the chance to win one of five free copies. To read about the results, please see our Facebook page.
