Emily Viglielmo (1964–2026) was a teacher, creative writer, and journalist. She earned college degrees in journalism and English as a second language and published articles in Newsday, the Los Angeles Times, the Honolulu Advertiser, and elsewhere. She also taught English for Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard’s apprenticeship program and tutored students in English. At the time of her death, she was working on a memoir—“Gaijin: A Family of Foreigners”—about her parents, Valdo and Frances Viglielmo, other members of her family, and their experiences abroad. For many years, she was a member of the Church of the Crossroads, joining the Lutheran Church recently.
