Kara Briggs is a poet and a professional writer. St. Julian Press has published her two books of poetry: Rivers in My Veins and You and I, and Spilyay. She received the James Welch Poetry Prize in 2024 from Poetry Northwest. Her work has appeared in numerous anthologies, including Unsinkable: Poems Inspired by the Titanic, the Rocky Mountains Literary Field Guide, and Reclaiming the Cascades: A Native Anthology. She is a Sauk-Suiattle tribal member and worked as a journalist for two decades before embarking on a career that includes serving as vice-president at the nonprofit Ecotrust. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Institute of American Indian Arts and a Master of Public Administration/Tribal Governance degree from Evergreen State College. Having lived across the West Coast, she now calls home her family’s forest farm on the Tulalip Reservation, north of Seattle.
